Sustainability is be a big focus of the Tree Change season of The Block, which was set in the rolling hills of the Macedon Ranges. The five houses built by the contestants are off the grid with a seven-star energy rating. There's even an onsite recycling centre for the building materials.
The seven stars are part of the National House Energy Rating Scheme (NatHERS), which provides guidance on building energy-efficient homes.

Spence is a Carpenter and fully committed to sustainability. He and his partner Kerrie Charter recently bought 120 acres of land in rural Victoria to build their fully off-grid 'forever home', called the 4Sheds Project.
